SPANISH FORK CITY ANNOUNCES SHOP LOCAL STIMULUS PROGRAM
Spanish Fork, UT — Spanish Fork City is pleased to announce the Shop Local stimulus program for residents and businesses within the City.
Three $25 vouchers will be mailed to each home in the City and can be spent like cash at participating businesses. Businesses can then turn the vouchers into the City to receive dollar-for-dollar reimbursement.
“We wanted to come up with a way to help both our residents and local businesses benefit from the CARES money that the City received.” Spanish Fork Mayor Steve Leifson said. “The Shop Local program accomplishes both of those goals and will alleviate some financial pressure from many of our residents during the holidays.”
Some residents and local businesses, especially those with local operators, have been financially burdened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, many of these businesses depend on the revenues they receive during the holiday months to keep their doors open. The Shop Local program is designed to give local businesses a financial boost to help them during what could otherwise be a challenging season.
“Because the intent of the Shop Local program is to help local businesses in need, the City and Spanish Fork-Salem Area Chamber of Commerce have asked Costco, Lowe’s, Macey’s, and Walmart not to participate in the program,” Community and Economic Development Director Dave Anderson said.”These large businesses have been successful because of or in spite of COVID-19, and have been gracious enough to decline participation so smaller businesses can benefit.”
The nearly 12,000 homes in Spanish Fork can expect a personalized plastic postcard mailer in their mailbox within the next week. The mailer will have three $25 breakout cards/vouchers. The vouchers will be valid through December 31, 2020. Residents are encouraged to use the vouchers or give them to another Spanish Fork resident in need. The more vouchers that are redeemed, the more successful the program will be.
More information, the list of participating businesses, and frequently asked questions can be found on the program webpage, spanishfork.org/shoplocal. You can also watch a Facebook Live recording of the Shop Local program.
Businesses with a valid Spanish Fork business license can still sign up to participate in the program on the program website: spanishfork.org/shoplocal.
