Spanish Fork Public Works Week: Wastewater
"Most of us don't think about what it takes for our toilets to flush and our sinks to drain until there is a problem. Thanks to our wastewater crew, these problems are few and far between." -Mayor Leifson
The Spanish Fork Wastewater Division of Public Works maintains over 150 miles of sewer pipe! Each line is cleaned every 4 years and video inspected every 7 years. Lines with tree root problems are treated every 3 years.
This division also maintains the wastewater treatment plant for Spanish Fork and Mapleton. This old plant, which will be replaced in a few years with a new plant, processes an average of 4.5 million gallons of sewage a day. The new plant will be able to clean and treat wastewater to much higher standards aimed at reducing the contamination in Utah Lake which has been contributing to the algae blooms.
