Have you seen these "For Sale" signs in the river bottoms along 1100 East (Poplar Lane or Tree Line Road) and wondered who would purchase the property and what the future plans for the property are?
We are excited to announce that last week Spanish Fork City completed a transaction to purchase the land (totaling 65 acres). We anticipate that the land will continue to be cultivated for alfalfa, corn, and wheat for the foreseeable future, with two exceptions: we have immediate plans to add the following trail amenities:
- a trail along 1100 East between River Bottoms Road and the Spanish Fork River Trail. This new trail, which is expected to be paved by late fall of this year or early next year, will connect to the River Trail and to a future trail on 1400 East.
- a parking lot and restrooms serving as a trail head to the River Trail (expected to be completed by next summer or fall). This parking lot will help with parking issues along 1100 East.
Both of these amenities will make traveling along 1100 East and recreating for trail users safer.
Future plans for this land include a regional park and open space. Through the visioning process we are currently undertaking, the Mayor and Council have heard the residents' call for the preservation of open spaces in the river bottoms. The Mayor and Council see this purchase, coupled with the 41 acres previously acquired, as a long-term investment in preserving open spaces in the river bottoms.
