Spanish Fork Mayor Mike Mendenhall, alongside the five other mayors of Utah Municipal Power Agency cities, spent some time in Washington DC this month to further the mission of public power.
UMPA is the power provider for Spanish Fork and five other member cities throughout Utah, Juab, and Sanpete counties (Levan, Manti, Nephi, Provo, Salem). The mayors of the six cities make up the UMPA Board of Directors.
The board was able to meet individually with each member of the Utah delegation in DC.
"We discussed how important public power is to our communities," Mayor Mendenhall said. "We shared with our representatives that we are on track for our power mix to be 40% renewable by 2025, with the solar projects in Spanish Fork and Mona being a large part of that renewable energy.
"Recent global events have only highlighted how important it is for us as a country, state, and cities need to provide reliable power to our citizens. We as local leaders will continue to collaborate with all levels of government to provide a service that is vital to our economic success in Spanish Fork and the region."
