Fire Crews Respond to Residential Fire

Spanish Fork, Utah — On Saturday, January 18, 2025, at approximately 5:30 PM, Spanish Fork Fire & EMS was dispatched to a residential fire in the area of 1600 East and 500 South.

Upon arrival, the first responding unit observed smoke escaping from the eaves and flames emerging from an exterior wall. Fire crews quickly initiated an aggressive attack, successfully containing the fire to the attic, laundry room, and carport areas. Thanks to their swift actions, the living spaces of the home were spared from significant fire and smoke damage.

Spanish Fork Fire & EMS was supported by the Spanish Fork Police Department, Central Utah 911, and Mapleton Fire & Rescue. In total, 20 firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the fire within 45 minutes of arrival.

Preliminary investigations determined the fire was caused by lint buildup in the laundry vent pipe, which ignited while the dryer was in operation. Damages are estimated at approximately $30,000.

The homeowners were displaced by the incident but have been taken in by nearby family members.

Fire & EMS Chief Eddie Hales emphasized the importance of regular home maintenance and fire safety.

“Please ensure your laundry vent pipes are clear of lint buildup and properly ventilated. Additionally, always verify that your smoke detectors are functioning to provide an essential layer of protection for your household,” Hales said.
